DUNNVILLE—The Grandview Lodge COVID-19 outbreak was ongoing this week in the Bridgeview unit.

“Unfortunately, we lost one resident on Wednesday this week,” said Jelte Schaafsma, Director of Nursing at Grandview, in an update to residents and their families on Tuesday, August 16, 2022. Schaafsma noted that the three residents to test positive most recently on Monday, August 8 “became symptomatic over this past weekend.”

“No other residents have become symptomatic, or tested positive this week,” she added.

The two residents tested in the Hillview unit, due to concerns that one of the roommates was showing signs of COVID-19, came back negative. This means the outbreak remains contained to a single unit in the home.

As of August 16, six residents on the Bridgeview unit remained in isolation. Schaafsma added, “Of the six residents in isolation, two residents remain symptomatic, but in stable condition.”

Visiting restrictions remained in place as of August 16 as well, with Essential Caregivers only permitted to visit Bridgeview residents.

“We are very hopeful to be ending this outbreak soon,” concluded Schaafsma. She predicted that after press time: “Pending no further COVID positive residents, we expect to be out of outbreak on Wednesday, August 17.”
