HALDIMAND—The Hagersville Hawks are set to advance to round two of the PJHL playoffs after four straight wins against the Port Dover Sailors in round one.
Hagersville hosted the first game on Tuesday, February 5, 2019. The Hawks opened the scoring with a penalty shot from Peter Cappucci halfway through the first. Port Dover tied the game in the second and took the lead on a powerplay goal in the third. Hagersville’s Zack Carr found his wings five minutes later, scoring on the powerplay himself, followed by a second goal 35 seconds later, and finishing out the game with an unassisted empty-netter for the hat trick. Jamie Ferguson made 31 saves in the win.
The Hawks dominated on February 7 in Game 2. Anthony Grigg opened the scoring for Hagersville in the first, and Luke Erauw extended their lead. Ralph Taggart capitalized on the powerplay early in the second for a 3-0 lead heading into the third. At the end of the period Grigg got his second of the night. With 16 seconds remaining Port Dover got on the board, but it was too little too late as the game ended 4-1 for the Hawks. Ferguson made 31 saves again in net.
