Haldimand 4-H Book Club members share their experiences with COVID-19

The Haldimand 4-H Book Club began in March at the Cayuga Public Library prior to March Break. Shortly after that first meeting, the province was in a State of Emergency due to COVID-19. In response, the club switched to online meetings via Zoom. For the club’s Achievement Project, leaders Marie Peart and Stephanie Huitema asked members to write an essay about “Your COVID experience and what role 4-H Book Club played in it” to be published in The Haldimand Press. This week’s essay is by Thomas Rickus.

My pandemic experience

By Thomas Rickus

The past few months have certainly been interesting. We have all had to adapt, working and learning from home and not being able to visit with loved ones. There have been a variety of challenges along the way. In March, my extremely busy schedule was suddenly reduced to nothing. 4-H was the only activity that kept going. The book club was a great motivator for me to get reading again. The club introduced me to some new books that I loved and never would have read on my own, as well as gave me motivation to read books that I have been putting off for a while.
