HALDIMAND—The following were discussed at Council in Committee on June 18, 2019. All decisions will be ratified at Council on June 24.
JLM playground gets funding
Councillor John Metcalfe put forward a motion to provide $6,000 in Community Vibrancy Fund (CVF) monies to JL Mitchener school to complete their fundraising efforts for a new intermediate playground, as they currently only have a playground for younger students. The total cost of the project is estimated at $34,000 and the parent committee has already raised $27,000.
Accessible parking in Hagersville
Two accessible parking spaces are to be established outside Hagersville United Church on the north side of Church St. W.
Parking in Port Maitland
A motion to create a no-stopping zone along Port Maitland Rd. on the east side was deferred until the Monday Council meeting. Councillor Rob Shirton said that while it has been a concern to have people parking on both sides of the narrow road, as it could potentially block emergency services, he has heard objections from residents who would rather cars park on the east side away from their homes. Shirton said that if needed he would provide CVF dollars to reconfigure available parking on the east side and put the no-stopping zone on the west side.
