DUNNVILLE—Haldimand County staff will meet with lawyers later this month to discuss options regarding loitering and vagrancy, which Ward Six Councillor Bernie Corbett says is currently creating havoc in Dunnville’s downtown core.
“I believe Council needs to address what some call a ‘state of lawlessness’ in Dunnville,” urged Corbett.
He continued, “The same individuals are pitching tents on County property, loitering on downtown benches, and disrupting local business.”
Corbett described the effect the group of vagrants is having on business and customers. He said businesses are moving and some are considering closing for good. Corbett said he understood that the freedom of rights makes policing the issue difficult, but more must be done for the citizens impacted.
