HALDIMAND—Haldimand Council has approved the 2021 Rate-Supported (Water and Wastewater) Capital and Operating Budget. It is the first of three budgets to be reviewed for the year, with the Tax-Supported Capital and Operating budgets scheduled for March 4 and 31 respectively.
“We have assets valued at about $229 million in terms of all our sewage treatment and water supply infrastructure,” said County CAO Craig Manley during the virtual Council session last week. “Over the course of the last decade the County has done a number of things to try and introduce more stability to the rate budget.”
Manley spoke of strategic budgeting ideas to replace or repair aging infrastructure, and using 50% of a gas tax credit offered by the Federal government to offset water and sewage expenses.
