HALDIMAND—Council staff recently approved the implementation of a new Pedestrian Crossover Program that is aiming to install numerous new crosswalks at strategic locations all over Haldimand County.
The initiative is based on a revision to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario in 2016 that requires vehicles to stop and yield the entire roadway at all types of pedestrian crosswalks. Staff have recommended a two-year implementation plan revolving around the County’s urban centres. The plan is to include one new crossing per ward per year, to be provided by that ward’s councillor in consultation with staff.
