CAYUGA—On Friday, December 16, 2022 Haldimand Curling Club held their playoff night to decide the 2022 fall winners.

The championship game was a close fought battle between the top two teams. Team Shari Booker (skip), Greg Salter, Jason Stewart, and Jen Swick went against team Laurie Admiral (skip), Mary Kent, Sarah Moody, and Carla Maidment.

Laurie jumped out to an early lead with three in the first end. Shari stormed back taking two in the second and stealing three in the third.

Laurie then took over scoring one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one more in the sixth end. Shari scored one in the seventh to set up the exciting last end.

With the score 7 to 6, Shari needed to steal a point to send the game to an extra end. With her last rock she made an excellent draw into the rings, potentially scoring the tying point. Not to be outdone, Laurie made an equally fine shot with her last stone, tapping Shari’s rock out and scoring two to make the final 9 to 6. Shari ended up in second place.

In third place was the team of Randy Bacher (skip), Dawn Angle, Chris Swick, and Brenda Rooker (substitute). James Brahan had been skip for the third place team most of the season but was absent due to injury. Brenda Taylor was also absent.

After the games food was served. A fun time was had by all both on and off the ice.
