HALDIMAND—Haldimand Horticultural Society (HHS) attended the District 6 Annual General Meeting held Saturday, April 27, 2019 in Burlington.

The first guest speaker, Dr. David Galbraith, Head of Science at Royal Botanical Gardens, gave a very interesting presentation on The History of Horticultural Societies over the past 100 years. Dr. Galbraith is a conservation and wildlife biologist.

Later in the day we heard about Gardening for the Future by Claudette Sims, a self-described “nature-loving, tree-hugging, obsessive compulsive gardener” and a member of Master Gardeners of Ontario. Claudette gave a very detailed account of what gardeners today should be doing to eliminate the invasive species for the benefit of the future of gardening and the varieties of plants, shrubs, and trees we should be planting instead. HHS was recognized for the best percentage of attendance of the 21 societies included in District 6.
