HALDIMAND—As of March 1, 2021 Haldimand County has switched from the Orange – Restrict status assigned by the Province in February to the Yellow – Protect level of the COVID-19 Response Framework.

Factors in the decision to downgrade to the Yellow level included a continued decline in new cases locally, and a higher public health capacity in place for rapid case and contact management.

“Wearing masks and staying home does have a beneficial impact on limiting transmission,” said Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett. “I want to commend everyone for doing their part in helping us move to the Yellow – Protect category.”

Dr. Shanker Nesathurai, Medical Officer of Health for Haldimand-Norfolk (HN) is cautiously optimistic about the news, but warns that this is not the end of the road by any means.

“We already have one confirmed case of one of these variants of concern and I think there will likely be a few more from our preliminary evidence, so we remain cautiously optimistic that we can maintain containment, and we can roll out the vaccination in a time efficient manner.”
