HALDIMAND—Haldimand will be receiving $725,000 from the Province of Ontario as part of an announcement from Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, on March 20, 2019 that a number of small and/or rural municipalities would receive a one-time investment to improve service delivery.

The money is intended to help municipalities find “smarter, more efficient ways to spend money that helps those who need it most, while respecting taxpayer dollars … (and) improve the way they provide services to their communities,” said a press release from MPP Toby Barrett.

Mayor Ken Hewitt said of the announcement, “It’s wonderful. Any kind of support from the Province or federally is always going to be well received.”

Having just received notification of the funding, Hewitt said, “I haven’t seen anything with respect to details … We haven’t had a formal meeting. I expect that in the next couple weeks we will hear recommendations from staff and decide from there what’s the best way to put this money to work and improve our service delivery.”
