To the Editors,
One evening last week, a friend in Toronto received a frantic phone call from a young couple with a six-month-old puppy. Their dog was acting strangely and suddenly collapsed. It could not walk. They were instructed to immediately take the dog to an after-hours emergency veterinarian clinic. The doctor knew instantly what he was looking at. He had admitted 18 dogs in the same condition in the last seven days.
