To the Editors,
A while ago I weighed the junk mail that reached our house on just the single worst day of the week: 477 grams, a little over a pound!
In the last census Haldimand had 45,608 residents, with an average of 2.6 members per household. That means about 17,540 households, for a total of 17,540 pounds of junk mail per week. In a year, that’s something over 450 tons! Given present concerns about water conservation and carbon emissions, those numbers are staggering. And they would be even worse if we included the junk mail delivered on all five weekdays.
