To the Editors,
The Progressive Conservative party, who has been in power for about 20 years in Haldimand Norfolk, left a flyer in my mailbox. Allow me to address their untruths.
1) Haldimand Norfolk Conservatives are saying that “life is expensive enough and too many Canadians are just getting by, instead of getting ahead”. In reality, HN residents are mostly doing better with the tax changes that Liberals have made. The median income after tax per resident in Haldimand Norfolk is $30,351 per year, which suggests there is a large group of residents who pay no federal income tax. Many of these lower income residents are seniors or single and low-income parents; they have received grants and Canada Pension plan increases. So rather than “pushing their dreams away”, as Conservatives say, many Haldimand Norfolk residents are having a little easier time financially.
