To the Editors:
What a relief! Mr. Barrett’s Conservatives (Feb. 28, 2019) will “create prosperity” by “restoring accountability” to the provincial budget. Sounds too good to be true. Let’s see.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary says that accounting for our actions means we “show what happened.” That’s pretty simple, but be careful! It doesn’t refer to what MIGHT happen, but what actually DID happen. Is this what Mr. Barrett does? Certainly, he lists many actions: e.g. using efficiencies to save money, protecting families in need, and cutting greenhouse gasses without a cap-and-trade system. But how about accountability for the results?
