HALDIMAND—Staff reported on the expansion of a number of programs aimed at managing the opioid crisis at a meeting of the Haldimand-Norfolk Board of Health recently.

Increased training on the use of naloxone kits, the growing use of a needle exchange program, and the development of opioid management and overdose response plans were all on the meeting agenda for discussion.

Together, these harm-reduction tactics are helping Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit staff take on an epidemic that has seen the rate of opioid-related emergency department visits in the region more than double since 2013.
