HNHU actively monitoring risk of the Delta variant locally

HALDIMAND—Six new cases in the past week related to a variant of concern have been reported in Haldimand and Norfolk, with some of those being confirmed cases of the Delta variant that originated in India.

“The Delta variant is a concern because of how easily it spreads. It may produce a more serious illness,” said Interim Medical Officer of Health Dr. Alex Huckowich. “The important thing is reaching levels of herd immunity so there will be less transmission of the variants or the original virus.”
