JARVIS—How does a young couple strike out on their own to establish a reliable, reputable, competitive construction company that supports not only their family but those of their employees as well? In the case of Nigh’s Concrete Forming Ltd., it literally begins with a solid foundation.
Nigh’s Concrete was incorporated by Howie and Lisa Nigh in their hometown of Jarvis in 2004 and had its first job in early 2005. Howie, who had previously worked in construction specializing in concrete forming, thought about having his own business for three years before making the move. Lisa left her full-time career to help with the company. She credits the support of family in helping them get established, in particular Howie’s uncle, Dave Nigh. Lisa says that, with one employee working with them, they “put noses to the grindstone to forge ahead.”
