To the Editors,
MPP Barrett’s Jan. 30, 2020 column drew attention to the remarkable richness of the Great Lakes Coast area, of which significant portions are in Canada and even right inside Haldimand County. Mr. Barrett’s glowing report was very convincing in itself but, for those wanting even more detail, there is also a 2001 online document on the Great Lakes Heritage Coast project (ontla.on.ca/library/repository/mon/2000/10294305.pdf).
How do we celebrate the immense historical and recreational appeal of this area? TVO and the NFB have of course both produced a number of documentary films. However, comparison with the vastly superior BBC Coast series (or other BBC local history/geography shows) quickly reveals how dull our Canadian efforts have been so far. But Mr. Barrett’s column vividly illustrates how much better Canadian productions could and should be.
