HALDIMAND—An individual has been arrested and charged in connection with a human trafficking investigation in Haldimand County.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. on January 1, 2023, members of the Haldimand OPP and Haldimand OPP Crime Unit responded to a 911 call at an address on Robinson Road in Dunnville.

As a result of the investigation, conducted under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, an individual was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Forcible confinement – section 279(2)
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm – section 264.1(1)(a)
  • Assault causing bodily harm – chokes, suffocates or strangles – section 267(c)
  • Withholding or destroying documents in relation to trafficking in persons – section 279.03
  • Trafficking in persons – section 279.01
  • Procuring – section 286.3(1)
  • Advertising sexual services – section 286.4
  • Assault with a weapon – section 267(a)
  • Fail to comply with a probation order – section 733.1(1)

The accused has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Cayuga Courthouse at a later date. No further information, including the name of the accused, will be released due to a court-ordered publication ban.
