JARVIS—Dunnville isn’t the only Tim Hortons in Haldimand to make a splash on the national scene in this year’s Smile Cookie campaign. While the final numbers weren’t available as of publication, the Tim’s location in Jarvis was in a neck-and-neck battle to crack the national Top 10 as of Sunday evening, selling in excess of 18,000 cookies through the combined effort of staff, volunteers, and local students.
“We were in 11th or 12th place on the Friday and we had a pretty successful weekend. We may have got up into the top 10, I don’t know for sure,” said Jarvis owner Shaun Salverda. “The effort was joint by staff, community, and a lot of volunteers. We sold over 18,000 cookies last week and we could not have done that without the volunteers.”
Funds raised from the campaign will go toward the West Haldimand Hospital and Healthcare Foundation (WHHHF), who also recently received a major windfall of cash through Hagersville’s mega successful Catch the Ace fundraiser.
“(WHHHF) would like to thank all of the Tim Horton’s staff for their incredible efforts during Smile Cookie week,” said Lisa Hostein, Executive Director. “They worked so hard to make a difference and … to support West Haldimand General Hospital. We also had many volunteers who also helped and generous business owners who donated prizes each day. To everyone who purchased a Smile Cookie – thank you! Thank you for realizing that there is always more we must do and for continuing to support the West Haldimand General Hospital. All money raised will go towards the purchase of new life-saving equipment.”
Salverda said of the impressive community involvement in the campaign, “I have a lot of students coming in after school … a lot of people from the hospital who came and helped out … and all the staff. A lot of them worked longer days. They came in early, they stayed late. It takes a little bit of effort from everyone, and it turns into such a successful program.”
Jarvis snagged the top spot in its Tim Hortons ‘Hamilton’ region thanks to their efforts, with Salverda’s Hagersville store placing a very respectable third in the same region. Salverda noted that the Dunnville location competes in a separate region. Congratulations to all involved for a job well done.
