JARVIS—The Jarvis Board of Trade, with assistance from Haldimand County, is in its fourth year with its Veterans Banners Project.
This year we are honouring the following local veterans who served in the armed forces to maintain our democracy. They will never be forgotten.
Dr. Charles Robert Eaid, Alfred W. Barlow, John D. Carmichael, Charles Roy Eaid, Robert Rodger Eaid, Mary E. Eaid, Merril Hunsinger, Lloyd Walter Marr, J. Stanley Mitchell, Charles E. (Ted) Oldham, A.R. (Bert) Peacock, Harry Leatherdale, George Parkinson, Stewart B. East, C.L. Strachan, W.A. Metcalfe, James T. Dunnett, R.T.H. Harris, W.D. Bradly, and Earl Bray.
New this year, banners will be installed on the lamp posts in Jarvis the first week of October and will remain in place until November 13. Banners from previous years will be on display at our local churches for the month of November.
Up to our fourth year with this project, we have honoured 80 veterans from the Jarvis and Walpole area who have served in the Boer War, Korean War, WWI, and WWII and those who have served as peacekeepers. We consider this project an honour to undertake, and encourage local residents in the Jarvis and Walpole area to submit names of veterans to ensure we do not inadvertantly miss anyone. Information can be sent to jarvisbdoftrade@gmail.com.
Never forget those who served so we can live in a democratic society.
