HALDIMAND—The Hagersville Hawks found themselves equally matched by the Hamilton Huskies Jr Blues in a 3-3 tie on January 29, 2019. Hamilton opened the scoring in the first and Wesley Fritz tied it up early in the second. Hamilton scored on the powerplay a couple minutes later, but Peter Cappucci managed to even the score for Hagersville before the end of the period. Anthony Grigg put Hagersville ahead for the first time just over a minute into the third, but Hamilton scored on the powerplay again. The two teams headed into overtime, but neither were able to find the back of the net again. Jamie Ferguson made 34 saves for Hagersville.
The teams did not have to wait long to settle the score however, as they played again two days later. Ralph Taggart opened the scoring halfway through the first for the Hawks. Hamilton evened it up and then took the lead with two goals in the second. Taggart got his second 6 minutes into the third to tie the game, and Nick Visser scored on the powerplay to take the lead. A minute later Hamilton tied the game before scoring again to take the lead back as well. Peter Cappucci managed to sneak one by the Hamilton goalie at the end of the third. The two teams headed into overtime again, but Hamilton dashed Hagersville’s hopes, scoring just 28 seconds in for a 5-4 win. Justin Easter made 32 saves in the loss.
