Junior hockey season getting underway

Caledonia Corvairs

After taking a year off to regroup, the Caledonia Corvairs were off to a shaky start in their first game back on September 7, 2019.

Opposing team Listowel scored first halfway through the first and then again halfway through the second. Eric Guest managed to put Caledonia on the board at the end of the second on a powerplay. The team couldn’t rally again however and fell 2-1. Harrison Fleming recorded the loss in net with 22 saves.

The Corvairs came out much stronger in their second game on September 8 when Henry Scott found the back of the net only 40 seconds in. Sarnia scored twice however before the end of the first to take the lead. Corvair Marino Moro scored in the second to tie, and Sarnia answered back that period. Wells managed to squeak one in in the third, tying the game and sending them to overtime, where he scored again for the 4-3 win. Nick Clay recorded the win between the pipes with 20 saves. Caledonia was lacking discipline this game, with 46 penalty minutes on 18 infractions. Two players managed two game misconducts each (including for one fight), and another got a fifth game misconduct for abuse of officials.

The Corvairs played Buffalo September 11 after press time and will host Welland on September 14 and Pelham on September 16, both at 7:30 p.m.
