Caledonia Corvairs
GOJHL – 1st of 9 Teams
The Caledonia Corvairs continued their streak with two more wins this past weekend. October 5, 2019 they defeated Niagara Falls 6-4. Nick McHugh opened the scoring with the only goal of the first. Eric Allair scored halfway through the second. While Niagara answered that one, Caledonia’s James Valente extended the lead again less than a minute later to close out the second. Corvair Ryan Wells scored early in the third to bring the score to 4-1. Niagara Falls found their stride suddenly, scoring three goals to tie the game. Joel Mazzilli put Caledonia ahead again, and Wells put the final nail in the coffin on the empty net. Aidan Hughes made 27 saves in net for Caledonia.
The following night Caledonia played a very one-sided match against Welland. Mazzilli led the scoring with a hat trick, getting two in the first and one in the second. Tyler Burnie was next, with two goals in the second, and both Wells and Matthew Bridgwater managed one each. Welland was unable to muster any offence and was swept away 7-0. Hughes faced 21 shots in net, versus the Welland tender’s 53.
Next up, Caledonia will host St. Catharines October 12 at 7:30 p.m. and then heads to Pelham the following day.
