Dunnville Mudcats
After losing their first battle against Hagersville, the Dunnville Mudcats took their revenge in a hard-fought match on September 20. Hawk Peter Cappucci opened the scoring unassisted early in the first, but Dunn-ville took the lead that period with goals from Alex McAteer and Jack MacDonald (unassisted). MacDonald got his second on a powerplay halfway through the second. Hagersville’s Luke Erauw closed the gap a few minutes later and Matt Dolan extended it again before the end of the second. Cappucci got his second unassisted, which was answered by James Bradshaw on the powerplay. Down by two, Wesley Fritz put Hagersville within one and Ralph Taggart managed to sneak one through the pipes with only three seconds remaining to send the game to overtime. Dunnville’s Matt Fang got the first goal for a 6-5 win. Hawk Avery Hartwick made 26 saves in the loss, and Mudcat Mitch Harvey made 24 saves in the win.
Next, the Mudcats head to Niagara September 26 and host Hespeler September 27 at 7:30 p.m.
Hagersville Hawks
The Hawks had another tight game on September 21, this time against Niagara. Jayden Lammel got the first goal of the game almost eight minutes into the second on the powerplay. Niagara had it tied by the end of the period. With a scoreless third, the two teams went to overtime. Just over five minutes in Matt Weston scored for Hagersville, giving them a 2-1 win. Jamie Ferguson made 30 saves in net.
