Letter to the editor re: Wrong headline

To the Editors,

Headlines are intended to foreground key information from the following article. In that light, consider the headline, “Five fully vaccinated residents test positive for COVID at long-term care facility in Caledonia” (Sept. 16, 2021). What’s the point of the article?

Buried 14 lines down, we finally discover what actually matters: each one of those patients has “mild symptoms.” Everyone knows that the COVID vaccine can permit rare breakthrough infections. So the widely-known slight risk of testing positive is not newsworthy and should not dominate the headline.
