PORT DOVER—Through the magic of the internet, Port Dover illusionist Lucas Wilson was able to dazzle a crowd of children in Tanzania with his magic show!

“One positive of the last two years was everyone learning about virtual performances! This has allowed me to perform for people halfway around the world without leaving home!” Wilson shared.

Wilson, who is Canada’s only four-time Guinness World Record holding illusionist, joined forces with Tumaini Children’s Foundation to create a virtual magic show for the children in Tanzania. What makes this experience even more unique is most in attendance had never seen magic before in their lives!

For an extra special magic trick, the team from Tumaini Children’s Foundation were able to give the children playing cards. With these cards, and following Wilson’s instructions, the children were able to perform a magic trick right in their own hands.

“The results were unforgettable,” says Wilson. “As the magic was happening, before I could even finish my sentence, they were all laughing, yelling, and smiling ear to ear! It truly was one of my favourite moments performing magic.”

Tumaini Children’s Foundation is a not-for-profit, registered charitable organization dedicated to the care, support, and education to orphaned and needy children in and around Usa River, Tanzania. Tumaini is home to more than 50 children. Tumaini also provides outreach support to many other children in their own homes to enable them to go to school, have food, and get access to healthcare.

This month Wilson is coming back to Tumaini to teach children how to perform their very own magic tricks in a virtual magic workshop.

“Lucas has touched the hearts of Tumaini and our children; he brings passion to his magic and brings laughter and joy to our children in Tanzania. We are excited to be partnering with him in offering The Magic of Hope in January 2023,” says Leslie Butler, Executive Director of Tumaini Children’s Foundation.

Closer to home, on Saturday, January 21 at Lighthouse Festival Theatre in Port Dover, Wilson will present his family fun magic show at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Proceeds from the show go towards supporting Tumaini Children’s Foundation.
