HALDIMAND—It was a busy weekend for local track and field athletes as there were events on the calendar from Thursday to Sunday.
Thursday, February 21, 2019 featured the start of the 94th edition of the Hamilton Indoor Games, held at First Ontario Centre.
Cayuga’s Caitlyn Thompson, 12, of JL Mitchener, was the local of note at the meet as she won the Junior Girls’ triple jump with a stellar distance of 8.92m. She then followed that with a bronze in the long jump, with a flight of 3.88m, and a matching bronze over 600m with a personal record of 2:04.65. Unfortunately, she had to run in a separate section from the other two medalists, competing strictly against the clock, leaving the balance of her grouping more than half a lap behind on the 145m track.
