DUNNVILE—Originally from Dunnville, Master Corporal (MCpl) David Thompson has been deployed to the Middle East since December on Operation IMPACT, Canada’s training and capacity-building mission in the region.

As a member of the Military Police Unit (MPU), MCpl Thompson conducts police investigations, escorts VIPs, and helps implement measures to protect Canadian Armed Forces members abroad. He is the in-theatre investigator for the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service, and he collaborates with other countries’ militaries on issues pertaining to security and investigations.

Operation IMPACT was launched in 2014 as part of Canada’s contribution to the fight against Daesh, also known as ISIS. In recent years, the mission has shifted toward building partners’ defensive capacity in several countries including Iraq, Lebanon, and Jordan. By helping such partners, the Canadian Armed Forces contribute to stability in the Middle East.
