Mixed messaging from Provincial Liberals

To the Editors,

I saw an interesting ad on TV this week: a young boy appeared with the caption, “He’s not just a statistic”; a young girl then appeared with the caption, “She’s not just a headline.” Then came the request to have your child 5-12 vaccinated. It then finished with, “If you have questions, ask your doctor.”

This is the same message as that from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI), which was in turn repeated by our acting Medical Officer of Health (MOH), Dr. Matt Strauss.

The Provincial Liberals House Leader, however, seems to take exception to Dr. Strauss agreeing with NACI, and claims that Premier Doug Ford and Provincial MOH Dr. Moore should take steps to remove him from his position.

This is the worst possible example of politicizing the pandemic; it has nothing to do with prevention and everything to do with finding any possible excuse to criticize the current government and try to make them look incompetent.

In doing so, however, Ontario Liberal House Leader John Fraser does nothing more than exhibit his own ignorance; Dr. Strauss was placed in his position by the mutual approval of the Haldimand and Norfolk councils, and neither Doug Ford nor Dr. Moore had any say in the matter, nor do they now have anything to say about how he does his job.
