It’s no secret that COVID-19 has caused economic hardship for many businesses, and The Haldimand Press is no exception.
While we are adapting to the current situation and continue with important news output, we are experiencing losses in revenue because of closures and the financial pressure being experienced by other businesses and organizations. Many of our local businesses have reduced staff and, at the same time, they are trying to find new ways of doing business to keep revenue flowing. We have been working with local businesses that have been impacted by this pandemic to support them as best we can with affordable advertising rates to promote their products, services, and changes. You can join us in our work.
We are writing this today to ask you to support your local community newspaper. If you are able to, please consider adding one, two, or three years to your current subscription, even if it isn’t due yet. Alternatively, you could order a gift subscription for a friend or family member, which not only supports The Press but also provides them with important local news and entertainment each week. If you share your subscription with others outside your home, this could be the perfect time to gift them a subscription of their own to be sent right to their mailbox for immediate access. Since our office is closed, the easiest way to do this is to go to haldimandpress.com and click on the ‘Subscribe/Pay a Bill’ tab, or send a cheque to PO Box 369, Hagersville, ON, N0A 1H0 with the details of your purchase.
If you feel inclined to go beyond these measures, or if you would like to help in a different but equally meaningful way, please consider a special gift to help community newspapers through this difficult time. A donation to the Ontario Community Newspaper Foundation can be directed to Ontario community newspapers in general, or the community newspaper of your choice, including The Haldimand Press. For more information on this, visit ocnf.org. Thanks to support from the Ontario Community Newspaper Foundation, you will receive a charitable donation receipt for your contribution.
While we certainly aren’t expecting any gifts, we wanted to let you know that these options exist to help support local journalism. Your continued support, in whatever form it may take, means that we can continue to serve our community.
It’s only through the help of our subscribers and advertisers that we can continue to research, write, and report on what’s happening locally – and people are up to amazing things around Haldimand! We are also making an extra effort to share good news, fundraising efforts, and help local not-for-profit organizations, such as our food banks, which are so vital to keeping our community vibrant and thriving.
None of us have been through anything like this before, but together we can get through this. Thank you for reading. We hope you and your families are staying safe.
If you have questions or thoughts to share, please contact us at any time: publishers@haldimandpress.com.
