SELKIRK—Chris Parco of Selkirk has created an online petition to open a boat launch in the Selkirk area. Parco believes the boat ramp “would be beneficial to everybody” with regard to both recreational use and water access for emergency services.

The proposed area for a boat launch is at the south end of Erie Street, which is currently a parking lot with an outlook spot and walking trail. Parco said, “It wouldn’t take much, just move a couple things around … and you could get a boat in.”

Parco said there was a boat ramp there when he moved to the area 18 years previously. Other community members recall there was a boat launch for much longer. Mark Liota commented on the petition, “There was one for all my 60 years up to a couple of years ago when the County closed it.”
