Alert Haldimand County employee catches scam

CAYUGA—Haldimand OPP is alerting local businesses after investigating an attempted fraud in Cayuga.

On Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 6:55 a.m. OPP were contacted by a complainant who stated one of their customers (at Haldimand County) had received a request, via email, to change the complainant’s banking information to a financial institution in Northern Ontario.

An alert Haldimand County Finance Division staff member noticed some “red flags” and found the request suspicious. When the staff member contacted the complainant to verify the validity of the request, they learned the request was not valid.
