Driver faces charge of racing a motor vehicle

CALEDONIA—Haldimand OPP has charged a motorist with racing a motor vehicle this week in Haldimand County.   

On Thursday, January 27 at 10:13 a.m., OPP stopped a vehicle on Argyle Street North in Caledonia that was travelling almost twice the posted 50 km/hour speed limit.

Police have charged a 26-year-old of Stoney Creek with Race a Motor Vehicle – Excessive Speed contrary to Section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act. 

The accused was issued a provincial summons to attend court, along with a 30-day driver’s licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and will be impounded for 14 days. The individual is to appear at the Provincial Offences Court in Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charge.
