Driver facing charges after avoiding ride program

CAYUGA—On December 26, 2023, at approximately 11:24 p.m., Haldimand OPP stopped a vehicle at a Townline Road East, Cayuga address.

It was determined that police were conducting a RIDE program (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) in the area of Highway 54 when a driver of a motor vehicle attempted to avoid officers. Police subsequently stopped the vehicle to conduct further investigation.

As a result, police charged a 32-year-old from Hamilton, Ontario with driving while under suspension and drive vehicle with cannabis readily available.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Cayuga at a later date.
