OPP Brief: Several alcohol or drug related driving offences lead to charges

HALDIMAND—Seven drivers are facing court dates for alcohol or drug related driving offences in Haldimand County.

On May 4, 2026 around 1:50 a.m., Haldimand OPP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Cross Street in Dunnville. A 21-year-old of Dunnville was charged with: operation while impaired; dangerous operation; and disobeying order of court. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on June 23.

On May 4 around 10:35 p.m., a driver was charged after officers seized suspected drugs and drug related paraphernalia on Lock Street in Dunnville. A 47-year-old of Dunnville was charged with: operation while impaired; possession of a Schedule I substance (two counts); have care or control of vehicle with cannabis readily available; and possess unmarked cigarettes. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on June 16.

On May 5 around 1 a.m., a driver was charged following a suspicious person report on King Street in Hagersville. A 56-year-old of Hagersville was charged with: operation while impaired; and have care or control of vehicle with cannabis readily available. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on June 23.

On May 5 around 3 p.m., a driver was arrested after police received a report of a possible impaired driver on Haldimand Road 9 near Hagersville. A 52-year-old of St. Catharines was charged with: operation while impaired; driver failure to surrender licence; possess unmarked cigarettes for sale; and possess unmarked cigarettes. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on June 16.

On May 6 around 12:30 p.m., a traffic stop was conducted on Main Street in Dunnville and the driver, who police observed earlier that day, was placed under arrest. A 29-year-old of Dunnville was charged with: operation while impaired; failure to surrender licence; and drive motor vehicle, no permit. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on June 16.

On May 6 around 9:50 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Port Maitland Road in Dunnville after observing an erratic driver. A 46-year-old of Dunnville was charged with: operation while impaired; operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus); and obstruct plate. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on June 23.

On May 7 around 7:35 a.m., an individual was charged after police encountered the driver on an unrelated matter on Haldimand County Road 54, Cayuga. A 71-year-old of Caledonia was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on June 30.

None of the charges against any of these individuals have been proven in court.
