OPP investigate suspicious death

SIX NATIONS—The Six Nations Police Service (SNPS), in collaboration with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), have arrested two individuals in connection with the March 2022 homicide of a Six Nations of the Grand River resident.

After an intensive investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, Michael Joseph, 23-years old of Brantford, and Jayden Elijah, 23-years-old of London, are both charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • First Degree Murder, contrary to Section 235(1)
  • Committing an indignity to a body, contrary to Section 182

Both individuals appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on June 7, 2022 and have been remanded into custody.

The Toronto Police Service began a homicide investigation on March 8, 2022 after the body of Ruth Ann Longboat, 56-years-old of Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation, was discovered in the Humber River, south of Dundas Street West in Toronto. 

The investigation remains ongoing and further updates will be provided when available.
