Positive moments: Stranger pays for groceries

The following is part of our search for positive stories to share with readers.

If these times have left you wondering about the world and mankind, rest assured that there are some really good people out there.

On Monday, March 7, 2022 I took my dad to Food Basics in Dunnville for groceries, nothing unusual about that. He went into the store on his own, and what was unusual that day was when he came out and got into the car; he told me that he had difficulty with the pin pad as the numbers were quite small and he couldn’t manage to use his debit card. After a couple of attempts and the payment not working, the gentleman with a young son behind him said something like, ‘don’t worry, I’ve got it,’ and he paid for my dad’s groceries.

My heart was so full that someone would do that for my dad, who will be 83 in May, and he was simply amazed. His comment was, “I can’t believe that someone would do that for me.”

Well, I posted about the occurance on the Dunnville Talks Facebook page in hopes that the person who did this would see just what a wonderful impact his kind gesture had on us. The post has had almost 300 responses to it.

There were several comments to the effect of: “There are kind folks still around”; “Such a nice post to read. Thanks for sharing; Nice to hear there is kind hearted people out there.”; and “We need to hear this in our days of wondering if the world has gone wonky, so happy to hear the kindness others will do, thank you xoxoxoxo, God Bless.”

So, to the kind gentleman who made such a wonderful gesture, “Thank you for assisting an elderly stranger and touching our hearts in such a positive way. Also, what a wonderful example to this young boy of what a kind and generous human being looks like. I hope that your kindess comes back to you in a big way.”
