CAYUGA—Haldimand County staff have been actively working to remove the former rail overpass (legally owned by adjacent landowners) on Haldimand Road 54 between Cayuga and York. Now that the main steel span of the bridge has been demolished, removal of the bridge abutments and rail embankment in the road allowance will follow. Haldimand Road 54 between York and Cayuga is scheduled to be reconstructed in 2024 as a part of the Hot Mix Capital program. During this reconstruction, the road grade at the location of the former rail overpass will be raised to improve the drainage and eliminate the frequent “water over road” condition that currently exists.
