Remembrance Day in Haldimand County

With poppies over their hearts, people gathered all over Haldimand on November 11 to pay their respects to soldiers and veterans who have served and those still serving today. Ceremonies took place in Jarvis, Hagersville, and Selkirk on November 5 and 6 and in Caledonia, Dunnville, Cayuga, and again in Hagersville on November 11. See Selkirk, Jarvis, and Hagersville’s coverage in last week’s paper. While the weather did not cooperate on November 11, dozens of people still gathered in the torrential downpours to witness the events and pay tribute to our soldiers and veterans. Ceremonies included parades to the cenotaphs, the singing of O Canada and God Save the King, the playing of The Last Post bugle call, prayers, laying of several wreaths, and more.
