HALDIMAND—On May 19, 2020 the Board of Directors of the Community and Children’s Safety Village of Haldimand-Norfolk announced that plans to build the Safety Village would no longer be moving forward. The organization began fundraising and promoting safety awareness in 2013 but was unable to secure the required funds to proceed with the project.

Mark Foster, President of the Board of Directors, explains, “The decision to dissolve comes from thorough thought. The Village was established in 2013 to assist emergency services in providing a centre for conducting safety awareness to all ages in the most efficient way. Unfortunately, fundraising was always an uphill battle, continually competing with many organizations in both counties, as well as maintaining volunteers.”

He adds, “Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the numerous volunteers involved, it just wasn’t enough. And now with COVID, businesses and fundraising groups who may have supported the Village will be unable to.”
