SELKIRK—The Selkirk Chamber of Commerce has embarked on a new veteran awareness project and is calling on those who knit and crochet to get involved. The plan is to create drapes of poppies to adorn the Memorial Gates at the entrance of the Selkirk Park and Selkirk Baptist Church on Main Street West.
Inspiration for this initiative came from the Niagara Falls Museum Poppy Project, which produced an art installation of more than 11,000 handcrafted poppies. Jenny Bryce of the Selkirk Chamber of Commerce says, “After the restoration of the Memorial Gates, the Chamber made it their business to continue to support veteran awareness in our community.”
