HALDIMAND—While the school athletes prepare to wind up their season with the Supermeet for Public Schools that was scheduled for June 5, club athletes are just beginning their series of summer competitions.

Two Cayuga girls represented Athletiques International track and field club on Sunday, May 26, 2019 and used the third annual Brent McFarlane track meet in Cambridge as their season opener. The two girls ended up coming home with five Personal Records (PR) in five events, one medal, and two ribbons.

Sydney Thompson of Cayuga was the medal winner, improving almost three metres in the javelin throw, managing 17.02m for the silver. She also added 33 centimetres to her best long jump with a flight of 3.25m.

Caitlyn Thompson, 13, knocked two full seconds from her time over 400m, clocking 65.69 seconds on the Jacob Hespeler Secondary School oval.

She also added PRs in the long jump, with a best of 4.17m for eighth, and the javelin throw, with a best of 21.81m for fourth.
