To the Editors,
GoFundMe said Friday that it had removed a fundraiser for the trucker convoy that had raised more than $8 million because it violated its terms of service. After receiving evidence from law enforcement that the “previously peaceful demonstration has become an occupation,” the company said no additional funds would be distributed to its organizers.
It is hypocritical for GoFundMe to remove this fundraiser yet do nothing about the GoFundMe campaign for the Land Back Lane protesters who blatantly broke laws, caused tremendous damage, and were even caught on video damaging a police car. I guess there really is a double standard. Citizens of Caledonia deserve better than this.
To me, it appears the people and politicians in Ottawa and Toronto really don’t like protesters in their backyard but when it happens in Caledonia, they don’t even pick up the phone or return our emails – looks good on them.
So, GoFundMe: I’m just wondering how you decide to apply your terms of service. Did you think the Freedom Convoy might damage your brand or was it government pressure? Come on, tell me, which one was it? Since you’re applying your terms of service now, why didn’t you freeze the 1492 Land Back Lane campaign?
