HALDIMAND—Don Otterman always had an interest in emergency services, though policing was his original career focus.
It was during a high school co-op placement with Haldimand War Memorial Hospital Ambulance Service that he discovered paramedicine as his true calling.
He recalls, “As a co-op student … learning from the ambulance attendants and watching them interact with people and each other, I knew this was where I was meant to be.”
Otterman has been a full-time paramedic for 17 years and is two years into his role as Deputy Chief for Haldimand County.
