Three frauds reported in Haldimand in one day

To The Haldimand Press

HALDIMAND—Haldimand OPP is reminding all residents to be vigilant and cautious after several frauds were reported by Haldimand County citizens.

On Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 1:53 p.m., a resident in Dunnville reported that he met a female online and the two had communicated for over a month. The female wanted to visit the male in Dunnville but claimed she did not have the funds to do so and she asked the male victim to assist her. The male had transferred money and gift cards to the female only to find out later that he had been scammed for $4,000.

Later that day at 5:15 p.m., a Cayuga resident reported they were contacted by a male claiming to be their son who had been involved in a vehicle collision. The male told the resident he needed $15,000 for bail money and to leave the funds in their mailbox. Family members intervened and realized it was a scam.

If anyone should receive a call in this manner, please contact your immediate family and inquire if anyone is in need of assistance. Please do not forward any funds without speaking to family members first.
