YORK—This past Sunday was the third Sunday of Advent. Advent is celebrated the four Sundays prior to Christmas Day. This is a time for followers of Christ to prepare their hearts to celebrate Christ’s first coming and prepare to welcome the second. The Maranatha York Christian Reformed Church held their annual Christmas Program on Sunday, December 11 at 6 p.m. The evening started with the congregation’s youngest members singing Go Tell it on the Mountain and a modified Jesus Loves Me. This year’s Christmas program was called The Advent Box. A young boy and his grandma reminisce and discover treasures in her Advent Box by finding little keepsakes, carols, and scripture. The four candles on an advent wreath each represent a different feeling or preparation we make for Christmas. The first week’s candle represents the hope we have in Jesus. The second week’s candle represents the peace we find in Jesus. The third week’s candle is the love we have in Christ and the fourth candle is the joy we find in Christ. —Submitted by Karina Houwer.
