Suspected driver in Alex Dalton death found not guilty

HAGERSVILLE — Timothy Clarke Anthony, one of four suspects charged in relation to the hit-and-run death of Hagersville resident Alexander Dalton on April 23, 2021, has been found not guilty by a jury on all three counts he was facing.

Anthony’s trial took place at the Cayuga courthouse beginning April 15, 2024 and ending with the verdict read out by the jury on Thursday, April 25, just two days past the third anniversary of Dalton’s death.

Anthony was arrested on April 7, 2022 at a Norfolk County residence following a lengthy investigation that saw significant community buy-in for providing justice to Alex’s family in the wake of the tragic accident, including $64,057 raised through the community as a reward for information and a year-long OPP investigation that ultimately led to four suspects being charged in the case.

A publication ban throughout that process meant that details related to the crime and investigation remained largely under wraps.

Anthony was acquitted on three charges: criminal negligence causing death, failure to stop at an accident involving death, and driving while prohibited.

No further information regarding the verdict was available ahead of publication, with court documentation related to the trial not yet finalized or available to the public. Also unknown at publication was the fate of the other individuals charged in relation to the case.

The Press will provide further updates on this matter as they become publicly available.
