HALDIMAND—The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is a time for the country to go to the city. Members of Haldimand 4-H look forward to making the trip to Toronto to compete and showcase the best Haldimand has to offer.
The National Junior Beef Heifer Show (NJHBHS) took place on November 1 and 2, 2019 with 17 members from the Haldimand 4-H Beef Club participating. In showmanship Ryan Clark and Abbey Cocking advanced to the semi-finals in the senior and junior divisions, respectively. In Conformation, Cocking’s Belted Galloway, 2 Bridges Lexi, not only won its yearling class but was named Reserve Champion Any Other Breed, an exciting result for team Haldimand.

While the cattle were in the show ring, four Haldimand members were competing in the Provincial Go For The Gold (GFTG). Haldimand earned the right to represent Region 4 in the competition. Preparation began months ago as team members Joyce Lyn Fox, Andrew Huitema, Ally Milo, and Travis Phibbs studied assigned project manuals on topics including llamas, chocolate, sewing, all manners of meat, building block engineering, and more. Haldimand team coach Karen Allen says, “Our members did an awesome job at each level and were able to answer some really tough questions that were not at all common knowledge. I’m very proud of their accomplishments and hope that they had fun and learned something new.”
